As mentioned in previously monthly memo, the GT students are completing an oral history project concentrating on the history and traditions of Clemson (HPE), Carolina (BES), and Furman (WES) football.
This project is being coordinated by the Belton Area Museum Association and conducted by the Anderson School District #2 4th and 5th grade GT students. Over the past few weeks students have had the opportunity to conduct and film interviews in-person, via SKYPE, and by phone conference several current and former players, hall of fame and current coaches, cheerleaders, mascots, band members, and super fans from these groundbreaking Palmetto State teams. Using these authentic primary sources the students have learned an immense amount of knowledge about these athletic programs and the history of football in our great state through the eyes of those who made it and are still making it today. A few BIG names our students have had the opportunity to capture on film include, but are not limited to:
Up next, the students will script the interviews and analyze ALL the information collected to create a 10-15 minute documentary-style film which will be premiered at the Belton Depot on March 9th. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE...all the students' projects will be permanently archived and displayed at the NATIONAL College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. What an honor!!! How many students can truly say their project made it to the hall of fame (and we're not talking the one in the school hallway here)? After all it took Steve Spurrier and Danny Ford over 50 years to get there. :)
